For anyone who loves trekking in the Himalayas, Nepal is simply the best destination for trekking. From the hills to the valleys and the open plain lands of Nepal to the dramatic landscape of Nepal, there is so much to see and so much to experience. Besides the dramatic scenes of the Himalayas, trekking in Nepal is about learning about the natural habitat, rivers, and ridges of Nepal. Planning a trekking trip to Nepal can be quite time-consuming, as Nepal is a very unpredictable place. Your trek can be finished within the set time or may take more time than you have predicted. However, a trickier thing about trekking in Nepal than planning is when to do the trek. What is the suitable time for the trek, or what weather is best for the trek? More importantly, what to expect when you are travelling to your destination is another thing to keep in mind. One often looks for a striking balance between the best time to trek in terms of weather and the crowd that area may gather during that time. Furthermore, trekking in Nepal is possible throughout the year, but it has its consequences. As per the trekking season in Nepal, each season has its own significant charm and is classified as follows:
Spring Season:
The spring season in Nepal is from March to April and is one of the best seasons for trekking in Nepal. The temperature during this season ranges from 25 degrees to 6 degrees. It is a good time of year for trekking, as the weather is less cold and free of snow on the high mountain trail. Moreover, this is the flower-blooming season, and the trail will consist of dense rhododendron forest. The views can’t be considered the best, but they will be a little blurred due to dust in the air.
Summer Season:
The summer season in Nepal is from May to June, and sometimes it lasts until July. The weather is comparatively hot and warm at night. The temperature during this season rises from 30 degrees to 20 degrees. One good point of trekking in this season is that cheap accommodation through the hot weather can be a little dangerous, and all the walking is not worth it with regards to views of the mountains as it will be hazy from the dust and monsoon clouds.
Monsoon Season:
The monsoon season in Nepal is from July to early September. The weather is warm and wet due to the rain. The trail gets sloppy, and there is a chance of flooding, landslides, and leeches as a bonus. The only benefit of trekking during this season is cheap accommodation and, worse, blurred views of the mountain. The best destination for trekking in Nepal during the monsoon is the Mustang, as it is a rain shadow area. Thus, trekking will be efficient and easy.
Autumn Season:
The autumn season in Nepal is from late September to November. This season is considered the best weather for trekking in Nepal. Therefore, it is a tourist season, so flights and books are tightly booked. During this season, nights are chilly and days are warm when the sun is shining brightly. Mornings are typically clear, clouds build up during the afternoon, disappear at night, and appear as spectacular starry skies, making it the perfect time for trekking in Nepal. Usually, the temperature ranges from 20 degrees to minus 6 degrees.
Winter Season:
The winter season in Nepal is from December to February. February is usually a little warmer than in other months. The temperature ranges from below 18 degrees to zero degrees. It follows after spring and autumn as a preferred time for trekking in Nepal. The temperature gets very cold at night and the sky is clear. The accommodation prices are relatively low compared to other seasons, and teahouse facilities are very limited too. The teahouse facility in the high-altitude mountain area is completely shut down until spring.
As mentioned above, trekking in Nepal during any season is possible but has its drawbacks. But trekking during the summer, winter, and monsoon is relatively dangerous. However, what we most recommend is to keep an extra day or two in your planned itinerary. You never know what might delay your original plan. At last, plan your trek in the best-suited season for you.
