Trip Overview

Wonders of nature and a spiritual trip that puts Tibet’s cultural and religious heritage first are Mt. Kailash and the Guge Kingdom. The Kailash Guge Valley Tour runs around the highway on the Roof of the World, leading to the residence of the Hindu deity Lord Shiva and, according to Buddhists, the Center of the Universe.

The Kailash pilgrimage begins in Kathmandu and travels through the Kerung border crossing into Tibet, China. We experience rich Tibetan culture during the stopover points in Kerung, Saga, the Brahmaputra River, Old Dongba, and some of the highest Tibetan passes before we reach the Holy Lake, Manasarovar. We cross elevated passes that cater to the scenic views of Tibetan landscapes and Himalayan giants.

The most exquisite and highly esteemed upland lake on Earth is tucked away in Tibet’s southwest highlands. Pilgrims from all over the world flock to this sacred location, Mount Kailash, which stretches directly over the lake, despite the fact that it is hidden deep in remote Tibetan territory. They are willing to suffer all the difficulties required to complete the 52-kilometer round. High passes must be crossed in order to fully circumnavigate the peak. Going around the sacred mountain is considered by devotees to be the greatest act of dharma one can perform in a lifetime.

Now that Kailash-Mansarovar has been explored, the group heads to the Guge Valley. The relics of Tholing and Tsaparang monasteries can be found in the ancient kingdom that used to call Tsaparang home. The most well-known Himalayan journey concludes in Kathmandu, where we ride through Tibetan communities along the Friendship Highway. Our time exploring the ancient Tibetan civilization at Guge and returning by car via Lake Mansarovar was the best memory of our lives.
